Numerology – an Ancient Science

The belief that our numbers reveal our motives and opportunities has been held for thousands of years.

The Egyptian Book of the Dead, the Indian Vedas, the Chinese Circle of the Heavens and the Hebrew Kabala all show that numerology was used over 11,000 years ago.

Pythagoras is considered the father of numerology. Born in the 6th century B.C., he brought this ancient knowledge to the Greeks. He started a school and passed on his secrets to his followers. They were forbidden to write down his teachings because the knowledge was considered powerful and sacred.

Early Christian scholars, such as St. Augustine used numerology to gain insight into their world.

The ‘birth’ of modern numerology can be traced to Mrs. L. Dow Balliet. In 1911, she gave us a system mapping the English alphabet to numbers. This system is the basis of numerology today.
